Attendance Policies and Procedures
Students are expected to be in school every day and to be on time. At 8:10AM, students are expected to be lined-up with their class at the appropriate door and to be prepared for school to begin. Upon entering the building, students are to report directly to their homeroom teacher before going to their locker. Being on time and attending school have a direct effect on grades and success, therefore, being absent ten or more days from any one class may result in failure for that quarter!
If an absence is unavoidable, students are required by law to bring in a note signed by their parent or guardian on the day that they return. The note must include the date of the absence and the reason for the absence. Legal absences include student illness, doctors appointment, court, and a funeral. Please try to plan activities around school hours whenever possible. Work that is missed during an absence should be made up within two days, unless other arrangements are made with the teacher. Students are responsible for obtaining and completing missed work.
If students enter the building after 8:30 AM, they must report to the office to obtain a late pass and to be marked present. Students who do not obtain a late pass are marked absent for the day. Students who report late to any class without a written explanation can be detained after school to make up work.
If a student has an unavoidable situation that requires being dismissed from school before 3:05PM, they must bring a written note from their parent or guardian stating the date and time of dismissal as well as the reason for early dismissal. The note must also include a telephone number where the parent can be reached to confirm the request. No student will be dismissed without confirmation of the written request by the school. Elementary students must be picked-up by an adult. Notes should be given to the secretary during morning homeroom.
When the teacher dismisses students at the end of the school day, they are to go to their locker and leave the building as quickly and quietly as possible. Students should not be waiting in the building for friends. All students should leave by the designated exits and proceed directly home. On some days students may be staying after school for coach class, a club or activity, or detention. Since students will usually know when these activities are scheduled, they should tell parent or guardian before coming to school. Telephones are to be used by students only in extreme emergencies.
**Please Note: Attendance Court will be held for students who miss ten or more days of school!
