Key Kids at Work - Designing Software: These "Concentration" simulations are based on activities used in Ms. Clausson's 3rd grade classroom. Our FSK third-graders developed the word lists and times table problem lists. 3rd, 4th and 5th grade classes provided design ideas, proofreading and beta testing of the software.* The "more challenging" versions are appropriate for older children (up to grade six).
Mathematics "Concentration" Simulations
Times Tables Concentration #1 - Math - Match times table problems with the correct answers. This puzzle use mainly times tables 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
Times Tables Concentration #2 - Math (a little harder) - Match times table problems with the correct answers. This puzzle uses the same times table as #1, but has more "matches" to do in a two-minute time limit.
Times Tables Concentration #3 - Math (higher numbers) - Match times table problems with the correct answers. This puzzle use mainly times tables 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12.
Times Tables Concentration #4 - Math (more difficult) - Match times table problems with the correct answers. This puzzle uses the same times table as #3, but has more "matches" to do in a two-minute time limit.
Times Tables Challenge #5 - Math (more difficult) - This puzzle uses all times tables from 2x2 to 12x12. Or try Challenge #6, our hardest one. Beware, some of the "answers" may be repeated.
"Measure with a Ruler" Concentration. Measure the "red line" to the nearest 1/16 of an inch and match the ruler measurement with the "numerical" measurement. More challenging = Ruler Concentration #2.
Language Arts "Concentration" Simulations
Contractions Concentration - Language Arts: Practice contractions by matching common terms with the shorter, or contracted version. Examples: I will = I'll, will not = won't.
Antonyms Concentration - Practice with words that have "opposite" meanings. Here is a More Challenging Version #2.
Synonyms Concentration - Practice with words that have "similar" meanings. Here is a More Challenging Version #2.
Homonyms Concentration - Practice with words that "sound the same" but have different meanings. Here is a More Challenging Version #2.
Battleship - The classic "Grid Search" Game.
*Being involved in this activity allowed our students to participate in activities used in the development life-cycle of "real world" software applications.
